What Electives are Offered?
There
will be a variety of elective courses offered as time and space allow.
Our goal is to enhance the student's learning experience by providing the
opportunity to study subjects more in depth, or to delve into areas of study
that are not part of the normal courses of study.
Old Testament Survey
This is a two-part course, each part consisting of 10 weeks.
Why Study the Old Testament?
● The Bible is incomplete without the Old Testament.
● The Old Testament is the foundation for the New Testament.
● The Old Testament provides the historical setting for Christianity.
● The Old Testament provides the basis for understanding the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.
The Focus of This Course:
● Most everyone knows about Noah and the Ark, Moses and the Red Sea, and other stories of the OT, but yet for many it remains to be a fragmented, loosely knit group of stories. This course is designed to give the student a sense of the pattern, unity, and progression of the Old Testament narrative.
● The design of this course is to help the student have a better grasp on the OT in order to have a clearer understanding of God’s ways and His purposes in this age, and His plans for future.
● There is a need for all of us as Christians to have a fuller understanding of key doctrinal truths that are developed in the OT and then carried on in the NT. Such as: God’s majesty, holiness, power, sovereignty, His love, goodness, wisdom, and plan of redemption.
The Progression of the Course:
There are 11 key books that make up the gist of the Old Testament narrative the rest are complementary or supplementary to the story line. In this course we will emphasize these key books since they provide the chronological and historical foundation for the other 28 books.
This approach to the course will aid the student in attaining a better awareness of the pattern and progression of the Old Testament Scriptures. This course will also develop the central unifying theme of the OT which is God’s covenant promises to Abraham and his descendants. This really is the glue that holds all of this together; it is the redemptive history of God.
The Materials for the Course:
● Bible
● Notebook
● Three-ringed binder
